Jockeys' Guild Education Foundation

The Jockeys' Guild Education Foundation (JGEF) is an initiative established through a partnership between The Lavin Family Foundation, Glen Hill Farm, and the Jockeys' Guild. JGEF is designed to address a critical and longstanding gap in the horse racing industry: the lack of structured educational support for the jockeys.

Our Mission

To advance, encourage, and provide educational scholarships for qualifying active and retired members of the Jockeys' Guild and disabled jockeys.

JGEF operates with three foundational principles:

Accessibility

Academic schedules are designed to be flexible to fit individual needs, allowing them to take classes online, in person, or hybrid format without interfering with their professional commitments.

Personalization

Advisory services ensure jockeys receive guidance tailored to their individual background, goals, and academic starting point.

Commitment

Jockeys that follow through on this opportunity earn a chance to build skills that can jumpstart their lives.

No

At this time we can only offer this service to jockeys. We hope in the future to be able to offer this program to spouses.

JGEF offers fully funded scholarships.

Jockeys can apply through the JGEF website or through the Jockeys' Guild. Additional guidance and support will be available to help participants choose the programs that best fit their goals.

JGEF helps jockeys identify transferable skills, explore new career paths, and gain the education or certifications needed to successfully transition into new professions.

JGEF is built through collaboration with organizations, educational institutions, industry leaders, and supporters who are committed to advancing jockey well-being and long term success.

Sponsors and donors can support JGEF by:

  • Funding educational programs or scholarships
  • Partnering on training initiatives
  • Providing mentorship or career opportunities
  • Making financial contributions

Support from sponsors plays a critical role in expanding access and impact.

By investing in jockey education and well-being, JGEF strengthens the entire racing community, creating more sustainable careers, improving quality of life, and fostering a culture of long-term support.

While many programs focus on immediate needs, JGEF emphasizes long-term empowerment through education, helping jockeys build lasting skills and future career opportunities.

Organizations can collaborate by offering educational programs, sponsoring initiatives, or creating employment pathways for jockeys transitioning into new careers.
